Low Cost Counselling

Affordable & Accessible Support for Londoners

What is the Low Cost Counselling Service?

Our service provides life-changing mental health support to people experiencing anxiety, stress and depression, as well as loss, bereavement and relationship issues. We support people who might be unable to afford private therapy, as well as those not wanting to wait on long NHS waiting lists. Our affordable fees make counselling accessible and open, and our large, diverse team of counsellors provide a very high-standard of support to our clients.

How does our Low cost counselling service work?

1. Initial Consultation

Please read our eligibility criteria before making a referral.

Once you complete the referral form, we’ll aim to respond to you within 7 working days to offer and arrange a 90-minute initial consultation with a WCC psychotherapist to understand your needs. This initial consultation has a non-refundable fee of £60 if you’re employed, or £30 if you’re on a low income or unemployed. WCC cannot guarantee services to all assessed clients and may suggest alternatives if we feel it’s more appropriate for you.

During the assessment you’ll be able to discuss your life, emotional, social and practical issues. We’ll work with you to determine an affordable fee for counselling using a sliding scale based on your financial situation. Lower fees are available for those claiming benefits, the unemployed and full-time students. More details can be found on our FAQ page.

2. Counselling

We aim to match you with a suitable counsellor as soon as possible after the initial assessment, but there will be a waiting period depending on your counselling preferences (in-person or online) and availability. Once matched, your sessions will be weekly, lasting 50 minutes. Clients typically have 18 sessions – this may extend up to a maximum of 2 years, subject to review. We’ll arrange the cost of your counselling sessions with a sliding scale based on your financial situation, not with the type of counsellor you have been placed with. The lowest fee for counselling is £20 per session.

3. Stay Connected

At the end of your counselling sessions, we’d really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill out our evaluation form. Your feedback helps us improve our services and ensure that we continue to provide high-quality counselling. A huge thank you in advance!

Many people tell us they would like to stay connected with WCC after their counselling has ended. If that’s something you’d like too, you can join our mailing list or follow us on social media to hear about mental health resources, service developments, events and the ways WCC continues to support people across our community.
