Nurturing Minds and Gardens: Our Summer Gardening Club
This summer, WCC embarked on an exciting new project that has already begun to bloom in beautiful ways. In partnership with Bankside Open Spaces Trust, we launched a Gardening Club in the back garden of the WCC office. During the program our garden is transforming into a sanctuary where refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers can come together to learn, grow, and heal.
Cultivating Community and Wellbeing
The Gardening Club runs over 12 weeks, providing a safe and welcoming space for participants to immerse themselves in the therapeutic world of gardening and horticulture. Each week, members of the club gather to dig, plant, water, and nurture a variety of plants and flowers. This hands-on experience not only teaches valuable gardening skills but also fosters a sense of community and belonging.
For many of our participants, this club offers a rare chance to find peace and solace amidst the challenges they face. Gardening has long been known for its mental health benefits, and our club aims to harness this power to improve the wellbeing of those who have endured significant hardship. The act of nurturing plants becomes a metaphor for nurturing one’s own growth and healing.
A Partnership in Growth
We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Bankside Open Spaces Trust, whose expertise and support have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Their dedication to creating and maintaining green spaces in our community aligns perfectly with our mission to provide holistic support to those in need. Join Us in Making a Difference
The Gardening Club is just one of the many social activity groups we offer at WCC. These groups are designed to bring people together, provide new learning opportunities, and enhance overall mental health and wellbeing. For more information about our other social activity groups, click here.
We believe in the power of community and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels valued and supported. However, we need your help to continue these vital programs. Your generous donations enable us to offer projects like the Gardening Club and support the mental health and wellbeing of refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers.
Your support makes a direct impact on the lives of those who are seeking peace, community, and a place to heal. Together, we can cultivate a brighter future for everyone in our community.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Waterloo Community Counselling Team
