Maria is young woman who received counselling through WCC’s Low Cost Counselling Service. She had counselling to help her process the anxiety, panic attacks, depression and post-traumatic symptoms as a result of her experiences of sexual abuse. Maria and her counsellor worked together for 40 sessions of psychodynamic counselling. Maria paid a minimal weekly contribution for her sessions due to the charitable funding and donations we receive which allow for subsidised counselling.
At the beginning of her therapy, Maria felt unable to safely express her emotions and one way this manifested was through self-harm. With the support of her weekly counselling sessions, Maria was able to manage her anxiety, she became better able to express her needs and communicated this to others. This led to Maria developing a healthier relationship with herself and others.
During the counselling contract, Maria’s financial situation changed and we were able to reduce her fee so that she could continue to attend her sessions.
She wrote: “The service was incredibly helpful in allowing me to make a payment plan.”
