One of our counsellors, Katia Volodina has been involved in the publication of a new book. She tells us all about it!
I am delighted to introduce “Tuning in” – a book that I and contributed to and co-edited together with my fellow co-members of Multilingual Supervision Group.
The group was set up by Dr Beverly Costa in 2020. Since then, we have been meeting regularly once a month to explore multilingual issues in therapeutic practice. We discussed cases from our practice, where the issues of power, disempowerment, shame, and trauma were linked to and experienced through language(s) – both for clients and therapists.
In this book, containing pieces of creative writing, we reflect on how languages we speak (and we don’t speak) are deeply connected to our identity and to our emotional experience and, therefore, they can influence the therapeutic process. We hope that the book will be helpful to therapists, counsellors, trainees, supervisors, interpreters, social workers, and all those how are curious about languages and about relationships in our multi-lingual society.
Some of the pieces will re-appear in our second book (that we are planning to publish in 2024), together with practical implementation tips.
Happy Reading!
